a work in progress

Here’s a skirt I’m working on for my trash fashion project.  It’s underneath layer is made out of a Journey’s catalog, and the decoration on the skirt is a discontinued library book of Picasso paintings.  It’s still a work in progress, but when it’s finished it will be part of a recycling campaign!

I love your skirt! And everything else. When Papa was working with UNESCO, (before republicans) we went to the Paris office and in the lobby were entries from all over world showing unbelievable things made out of all kinds of trash, even a bathtub. Good luck on this project. As you know, in places like India and Africa, where there is a large population without money, they are forced to to be creative to make a living from transforming trash. Remember “the flower man” in the shantytown. The devil mask on my bathroom wall was made in India from recycled school work sheets. Also there is a rattle from Kenya in the musical instrument corner by the front door that uses rusty bottle caps. Newspapers can be pretty strong if built correctly and protected with waterproof paint or schellac. I first learned that many years ago when I made a woven “sit-upon” while in Brownies. Oh well, enough of granny-gab, As you can tell, I love this topic and I love to see what you are doing. Have fun! Love, Nmi
